Abstract
Twenty-one patients diagnosed as sepsis at department of Surgery, GNUH. were randomized to receive ranitidine intravenodsly 50 mg every 8 hours for 7 days or no ranitidine. Cell-mediated immunity was assessed by skin-testing with seven common
delayed
type hypersensitivity antigens applied on days 1 and 7 and all test were read at 48 hours, and T-cell counting with APAAP immunohistochemical method
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) Delayed type hypersensitivity improved in patients treated with ranitidine(p<0.05)
2) T4 lymphocytes increased in patietns treated with ranitidine(p<0.05) and T lymphocytes increasedin patietns treated without ranitidine(P<0.05)
3) The recovery time was shorter in patient treated with ranitidine than without ranitidne (p<0.05).
As a result, ranitidine was effective for improvement of delayed type hypersensitivity skin reaction and recovery in the patients with sepsis. The potentially beneficial effect of raniftidine in patients with immunodepression should be considered
in
future studies.
